The Holiday Season in Fort Myers, Florida
The Edison-Ford Estate
One of the really cool things about living in Southwest Florida during the holidays is being able to view the spectacular decorations in some of our local attraction sites. History is around every corner here in sunny Southwest Florida. Take a look at Fort Myers this holiday season with these historic places going all out:
From November 25 – January 1st, The Edison-Ford Estates is home to “Holiday Lights”. There is always nightly entertainment, tours and – on some nights – the ole guy himself (SANTA!) even makes an appearance. Food service, sunset river cruises and tours of the homes, Thomas Edison’s museum & lab are all offered, too.
All of the joint properties are beautifully decorated with millions of lights and even lots of historic decorations. It is always a grand place to visit, seeped in history and information, at any time of the year – but seeing it all decked out in the holiday trimmings is something you want to view at least once in your lifetime!
General admission runs from $20 for adults to $2 for young ones, with some discounts and specials. Hours vary, and I’d recommend going online or calling to see more information.
Burroughs & Langford-Kingston Homes
Also – for the past 60 years!, the Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club takes great pride in decorating the famed Burroughs & Langford-Kingston Homes in downtown Fort Myers’ river district for the holidays. This year’s theme of “Let Heaven and Nature Sing” will leave you breathless as you take in the traditional décor and exquisite styles this group of talented ladies is known for. They start working on the following year’s theme even before the current year is up, and spend countless hours on making these two estates simply magical to visit. This event runs until December 23rd, from 5-9 PM daily. Admission is only $5, with children and Veterans being free. The proceeds go to helping the city of Fort Myers continue its maintenance and upkeep of these historic properties. Santa – of course! – is here (at the Langford-Kingston home) also to delight young & old alike.
Edison Festival of Light Grand Parade
February 18, 2017
Since 1938, we have been celebrating Thomas Edison and his contributions to our area. This organization has been honoring Thomas Alva Edison’s contributions. The organization seeks to improve the community by education and activities relating to Edison’s works and values. A definite must see!
If you would like to participate in a fun run the Edison Festival 5K Race has gained international notoriety. There are thousands of spectators take over the streets of the Downtown River District, as you run you can feel the energy and love for the area. It is definitely my favorite fun run!
Having visited each of these lovely events many times in the past, I cannot say which is more enjoyable to visit…..if I were you, I’d do them all! Yet one more reason to visit – and move to sunny Southwest Florida!
